Markus Czieharz, born in 1995, received his first trumpet lessons at the age of five from his father Siegfried Czieharz, the deputy principal trombonist of the Nürnberger Symphoniker.
In 2010 he started his prepatory studies with Prof. Hannes Läubin and Prof. Thomas Kiechle at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. Since 2013 he has been in the famous trumpet class of Prof. Reinhold Friedrich at the University of Music in Karlsruhe.
He has gained further stimulus from performing in master classes held by Klaus Schuhwerk, Laura Vukobratovic, Wim van Hasselt, Max Sommerhalder, Luis González, Kristian Steenstrup, Bo Nielson and Manuel Blanco.
The young trumpet player has on several occasions won first prize in the national competition “Jugend Musiziert” which awarded him recording sessions with the Bavarian (BR) and West German Radio (WDR). As a result of winning a scholarship in the German Music Competition 2013, he was taken on and is being promoted by the German National Agency for Young Performers.
In January 2015, he received 3rd Prize in the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Hochschulwettbewerb. One month later he won a scholarship from the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe.
In the concert season 2015/16 he will be the scholarship holder of the Mozart Gesellschaft Dortmund.
At the age of 14, Markus Czieharz made his solo debut in the Philharmonie Essen. This was followed by concerts with renowned orchestras such as Stuttgart Philharmonic, Bremen Philharmonic, Klassische Philharmonie Bonn, Kammerphilharmonie Mannheim. With these orchestras he played in famous german concerthalls like the Herkulessaal Munich, Konzerthaus Berlin and Dortmund, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Liederhalle Stuttgart, Meistersingerhalle Nürnberg and the Beethovenhalle Bonn. He has appeared at numerous international festivals including the Sauerlandherbst, Swiss Chamber Music Circle, Adelboden Classics, Gezeitenfestival Ostfriesland, Orgelsommer Meschede.
In addition to his solo playing, he is very passionate about chamber music. He is a permanent member of the Salaputia Brass Connection, Brasssurround and in 2014, with fellow students from Hannover, Karlsruhe and Vienna, founded a brass quintet called Ardenti Brass. In the same year this ensemble won the first prize at the International Competition for Brass Ensembles in Passau.
In 2015 he played with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra Brass Ensemble.
His orchestral experience began very early in the National Youth Orchestra of Germany, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, the German Philharmonic Orchestra Rhineland-Pfalz, the Symphony Orchestra of India, as well as others.
His work under the baton of conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle has taken him to European cultural centres and concerthalls including the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein, Berlin Philharmonie, Auditorio Nacional de Música Madrid, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Lisbon and to festivals like the Salzburger Festspiele, Bolzano Festival and Interlaken Classics.
From late 2015 he will be the trumpet player in the Academy of the Bavarian Radio Symphony
Orchestra with chief conductor Mariss Jansons.
